The Alfred Hauptmann Prize is awarded each year by the German Society for Epilepsy (DGfE) for the best original scientific work. Professor Ingmar Blümcke will begiven the prestigious science award during the League-meeting in Graz. His research group was able to show that learning in the human brain very much depend on the regenerative capacity of adult neuronal stem cells.(. Coras et al Brain 2010; 133 (11) :3359-72).

European Research Consortium "EuroEPINOMICS" with participation of the Erlangen Neuropathology

Epilepsies are among the most common neurological diseases. Unfortunately, even today many patients are not treated adequately. The EU has launched a new program to life called (“EuroEPINOMICS”), in which the genetic and molecular biological basis of epilepsy is explored in the international alliance together.

The Erlangen neuropathology is prominently represented in this The EpiGENet research consortium they particularly aim to characterize common epigenetic pathomechanisms of epileptogenesis and, thereby, to identify novel targets for pharmacotherapy. The student will benefit from supervision through an experienced post-doc and from strong collaborations. Exchange with other groups of the consortium (Germany, Finland, Poland, Austria, France, UK, Australia) is encouraged. In addition, the cooperation with Australia, England and France is supported financially (DFG Bl 421/3-1 document number).
